Do you believe in the concept of time travel? Do you think it is possible? For most of us this term ‘time travel’ is a fantasy that we mostly enjoy watching in sci-fi movies. Scientists and researchers are still working day in day out to figure out if travelling across the dimensions of time can be made a reality. But very recently, I came across something that got me goosebumps head to toe! Felt as if time travel to the past wasn’t just a thing of fiction and movies but something way beyond that. Something a lot more profound than what science has achieved.

So let me share with you what exactly blew me off totally about this story. Or better say a story about the past. About the generations that lived thousands of years ago.

The Accidental Discovery

It was 12th September, 1940 when an 18 year old boy named Marcel Ravidat (Mechanic by profession) was walking along with his dog named Robot in the country side of South Western France. It all started when the dog suddenly fell in a hole and disappeared down there. Robot is said to have returned safe and sound eventually, but the mysterious hole left the young mechanic curious. The following day, Marcel returned to the spot again and this time with three friends just to explore that hole and find out what lies within. They started digging the hole and after some good effort they finally made it inside the hole. They landed into a cave and what they saw within was jaw dropping. The cave walls were covered with paintings and illustrations. Most of these paintings were of animals. Some of the animals that were painted could be identified such as horses and bisons. But most of the animal species illustrated in those paintings have now gone extinct.

The most intriguing stuff of this cave were the ‘hand stencils’. There were many abstract signs, symbols and shapes drawn that we cannot interpret today. This cave was later named the “Lascaux cave

The Astonishing Revelations

The shocking part here is that these paintings were earlier thought to be at least 17,000 years old. But the new research reveals that this isn’t true. During the time period when these paintings were made, the only human species that existed were the Homo sapiens. So archaeologists made an assumption that we must have been the artists of these cave paintings. But that’s not the case.

Similar hand stencils have been found in different caves all around the world. America, Australia, Indonesia, Spain and Africa are just few of the places where indistinguishable hand impressions just like the Lascaux cave have been found.

A team of researchers examined paintings from three different caves in Spain, which reveal shocking results. A red hand outline dated back to 66,700 years! It doesn’t stop here. A painting of a red geometric shape dates back to 64,800 years. And there is another one which was painted 65,500 years ago. These paintings are the oldest dated cave paintings in the world!

These dates are extremely shocking to archaeologists as we didn’t arrive until 44,000 years ago! There was no sign of Homo Sapiens on the planet when these 3 paintings were made. Then who made this art?.. Read More
